Hardback. A very good copy in light beige blind-decorated cloth which is lettered in gilt on the spine and decorated and lettered in gilt on the upper board. A clean copy with no ownership inscription and little foxing. Hinges sound. Light yellow end-papers. 96 pages. "With twenty illustrations drawn from the stuffed animals contributed by Herrmann Ploucquet of Stuttgart to the Great Exhibition" (including a folding frontispiece described as a "double plate.") The illustrations are uncoloured. With the exception of " Reynard the Fox" the sketches in the book were written to illustrate the drawings as the stuffed animals were, according to the preface, "one of the cleverest and most popular displays in the Great Exhibition." The book is now protected in a clear, removable, cover.
