Hardback. Nd. 1876? Probably first English edition. A good copy in brown cloth lettered in gilt, decorated in black and with pictorial onlay to upper board. Bevelled edges. Some wear to spine ends and board tips. All edges gilt. No ownership inscription and overall quite a nice clean copy internally. 194 pages + 6 pages publisher's adverts. Tissue-guarded frontispiece and numerous full-page black and white illustrations. A Note states that this "is an American story, but some few necessary alterations have been made in the text to adapt it for English readers."
