Galt John - Bogle Corbet; or, the Emigrants

Hardbacks. A very good three volume set in a dark blue half-leather binding. Lettered in gilt on red title-pieces. Attractively gilt decorated spines. Some wear to board tips and spine edges and a little wear to the spine of volume three. Marbled end-papers and edges. No ownership inscription. Some foxing to early and late pages. Vol. I,pp.iv,312. Vol. II,pp.[ii],311. Vol. III,pp.[ii],322. This is the only one of Galt's novels to be set in Canada. Galt spent several years in Canada in the 1820's as Secretary of the Canada Company which had been established to aid in the colonization of the Huron Tract in Upper Canada. He founded the city of Guelph, co-founded the town of Goderich and had the community of Galt in Ontario named after him. Volume III contains a factual Appendix describing the different townships in eight of the eleven districts of the province of Upper Canada. An uncommon Galt title. Photograph available on request.

Garioch's second publication and the first to be solely by him. Garioch was a major figure in the Scottish 20th century literary renaissance and was the supreme poet of the Edinburgh scene in the second half of the 20th century. Scarce.
